Local foods / Countryside Stewardship
CPRE wishes to see a living countryside, where our farmers are using the land productively and with sensitivity to wildlife and the appearance of the rural landscape. We also believe in encouraging the use of local foods, both to support local agriculture and to reduce the amount of “food miles” with their adverse impact on the environment. We are liaising with local groups and providing what support we can.
November 2007 was an interesting month with much publicity about Bath Farmers Market. CPRE is anxious to see the market continue in a form that encourages production and consumption of local foods and is pleased to see that all parties appear to share these aims. We will do what we can, in the background, to encourage the dialogue between the various parties.
Local foods was also the topic of two very interesting presentations to the CPRE Avonside District AGM (More information to follow). We have recently issued a press release on this matter:
