South Gloucestershire

Welcome to the South Gloucestershire section of the CPRE website. We are one of the four districts of the Avonside Branch and cover the same area as the unitary authority of South Gloucestershire Council.

The South Gloucestershire Area

north nibleySouth Gloucestershire stretches from the River Severn (both of the Severn Crossings are in South Gloucestershire) and reaches almost the edge of Bath, including the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty around Marshfield and Cold Ashton.

The northern boundary lies beyond Falfield and reaches the edge of the Cotswolds AONB including the villages of Badminton and Hawkesbury Upton. The southern boundary skirts Bristol with the home of the aerospace industry at Filton and Patchway.

The area is diverse with large new developments including Bradley Stoke and Emersons Green and old market towns such as Chipping Sodbury and Thornbury.

Issues and Campaigns

AGM 2007 and Committee 2008

Our AGM was held on 3rd November and was followed by an illustrated talk on Villages by Alan Isaac. Sue Gawler was elected as Chair for 2007-08 and Marilyn Palmer as Secretary. However, following the sad loss of Sue Gawler, who died suddenly in December 2007, Marilyn Palmer is now acting Chair and Gerry Philp is acting Secretary.

Support Us

Our precious local countryside needs your help more than ever. If you would like to support CPRE by becoming a member, please go to the Contact Us page. If you are already a member and would like to take a more active role in your local District, we would be very pleased to hear from you, even if you only have a small amount of time to spare. We have sadly lost two key committee members in recent months at a time when we need to challenge the threats to the area from proposed major development.
