South Gloucestershire
Welcome to the South Gloucestershire section of the CPRE website. We are one of the four districts of the Avonside Branch and cover the same area as the unitary authority of South Gloucestershire Council.
The South Gloucestershire Area
South Gloucestershire stretches from the River Severn (both of the Severn Crossings are in South Gloucestershire) and reaches almost the edge of Bath, including the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty around Marshfield and Cold Ashton.
The northern boundary lies beyond Falfield and reaches the edge of the Cotswolds AONB including the villages of Badminton and Hawkesbury Upton. The southern boundary skirts Bristol with the home of the aerospace industry at Filton and Patchway.
The area is diverse with large new developments including Bradley Stoke and Emersons Green and old market towns such as Chipping Sodbury and Thornbury.

AGM 2009 and Committee 2010
Our AGM was held on 26th November 2009 at the Yate and District Heritage Centre. Marilyn Palmer was re-elected as Chairman and Hilary Severn, who has recently stepped down as the Chair of Avonside Branch, was elected as Vice-Chair. Gerry Philp continues as Secretary.
Our committee is rather depleted as we have sadly lost two key committee members in the past few years, including Sue Gawler, our former Chairman. Les Forrest, the Hon Treasurer of Avonside Branch is acting as our “caretaker” Treasurer. Marilyn stressed at the meeting how important it is to have new members coming forward to help the Committee with their work, especially at the present time when so much is going on locally that we need to respond to or be involved with.
The business of the AGM was followed by an extremely interesting talk by David Hardill, the Community Heritage Officer, about the work of the Yate and District Heritage Centre.

Support Us
Our precious local countryside needs your help more than ever. Our committee is very small at a time when we need to challenge the threats to the area from proposed major developments. If you would like to support CPRE by becoming a member, please go to the Contact Us page. If you are already a member and would like to take a more active role in your local District we would be very pleased to hear from you even if you only have a small amount of time to spare, perhaps to write a letter or look at a planning application in an area you are familiar with. You don’t need to be an expert and we can offer guidance on how to do it!
