Local Food
CPRE wishes to see a living countryside, where our farmers are using the land productively and with sensitivity to wildlife and the appearance of the rural landscape. We also believe in encouraging the use of local foods, both to support local agriculture and to reduce the amount of “food miles” with their adverse impact on the environment.
We support South Gloucestershire Council’s Local Food Initiative.
The annual South Gloucestershire Local Food and Drink Festival was held in September and October 2010. There was a prize draw for a hamper filled with local produce donated by the producers taking part in the festival. This is the Sue Gawler Prize, offered in memory of Sue who was Chair of South Gloucestershire CPRE and who served for several years on the Local Food Partnership.
