Poem on Litter by Rowan Nevin

Rowan’s class was asked by its teacher to go into the school field and write a poem about spring, incorporating what they saw. This is what he wrote, which encapsulates what our campaign is all about:

THE UNEXPECTED START OF SPRING
IS A SPECIAL TAKE FOR GRANTED THING
IT CREEPS UP LIKE A CAT ON MOUSE
THEN SHINES THROUGHOUT THE LONELY HOUSE
IT TWEETS, IT HOPS IT BUZZES AROUND
YET, LIES AMONG THE GREEN GRASS GROUND
A WRAPPER, CAN, SCRAPS OF FOOD
CHEWING GUM ALREADY CHEWED
PACKETS, CARTONS, THE LIST GOES ON
THE START OF SPRING HAS ALL GONE WRONG
LITTER TRODS THE GRASSY PLAIN
PLASTIC BAGS THE BIGGEST PAIN
THE UNEXPECTED START OF SPRING
CAN’T ALWAYS BE A FIRST CLASS THING

Rowan Nevin (12) Downend
